The Great South Run Is Back!

The countdown to the Great South Run is on. Portsmouth’s much-loved running event returns to the city on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 October, and this year it’s all about the comeback!

It’s shaping up to be an action-packed weekend of running with the Great South 5k and Junior and Mini events kickstarting the celebrations on the Saturday. If you fancy pushing yourself that bit further, on Sunday the infamous 10-mile route makes a return with music and encouragement spurring you on the whole way.

The event is famous for its buzzing atmosphere, crowd support, and notorious music and entertainment zones.  To keep runners safe there will be covid secure measures in place, but the thrill of running through Portsmouth’s streets and the unbeatable feeling of crossing the seafront finish along Clarence Esplanade, will be even more special this year.

Renowned for being one of the most picturesque running routes around, 16,000 runners will line the start line in Southsea ready to take on the challenge along the stunning South Coast. The event showcases some of Portsmouth’s best bits, passing iconic landmarks including the remarkable Portsmouth Harbour, Spinnaker Tower and the historic Dockyard where runners pass HMS victory.

The greatest reward in taking part is the sense of achievement as you cross the finish line, but a shiny new medal, a snazzy finishers t-shirt and a finisher’s bag filled with goodies will await you at the end of the run.
